Manila, 22 March 2024 – Kairos Renewables (“Kairos”) is pleased to announce the sale and divestment of its entire 40% ownership stake in a project, Real Wind Energy Inc (“RWEI”), to ACEN CORPORATION (PSE: ACEN).

Strategically located near the metro-Manila area, RWEI is developing one of the Philippines’ most significant onshore wind power projects, with a potential project capacity of 500MW and slated for project completion in 2030. Currently in the early development stage, RWEI has secured wind service energy contracts and constructed met masts across key areas of the project.

This successful transaction illustrates Kairos’ greenfield strategy of identifying and developing high-value wind power sites which support, in scale and performance, the accelerating transition to green energy.

About Kairos

Kairos was established in 2013 and is uniquely positioned as an independent renewables development platform based in and focused on Southeast Asia, with a team of 32 professionals operating from offices in Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Kairos continues to follow a strategy focused on its wind power expertise and long-term relationships built with many of the region’s leading utility-scale renewable energy investors. Kairos is responsible for every stage of a project’s lifecycle, from origination to commercial operation and beyond. Kairos aims to develop at least 10 GW of wind and solar projects (including battery energy storage system components).

Kairos is grateful for the continued support of all its investors, including Annycent Capital, an alternative asset manager specialised in renewable energy infrastructure, and the Seed Capital Assistance Facility established by the United Nations Environment Programme and the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management GmbH.

For full version of press release, please visit: https://kairos-renewables.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/07_Press-Release_RWEI-Sale_20240322_final.pdf

Utility-scale wind and solar developer Kairos Renewables (Kairos) announced it has entered a joint venture partnership with a wholly owned subsidiary of JCM Power Corporation (JCM Power) to co-develop projects across Southeast Asia. Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, JCM Power is an independent power producer which specializes in renewable energy infrastructure in emerging markets.

The joint venture will fund the advancement of Kairos’ regional wind project pipeline, with the first projects expected to start construction next year and represents JCM’s entry into the Southeast Asian renewable energy market.

Justin Woodward, JCM’s Founding Partner and Chief Development Officer stated, “We believe that working with an experienced regional partner like Kairos provides the opportunity to scale our business in Southeast Asia. The initial portfolio of projects provides an attractive mix of greenfield and later-stage investment opportunities. We look forward to working with the Kairos team in building on that pipeline of opportunities.”

“We are very happy to partner with JCM Power in a joint venture”, explained Kairos Managing Director Ed Douglas. “Kairos has ambitious growth plans and our partnership with JCM expands on a strong relationship built over the past five years. Combining our forces provides both companies with the additional resources and experience required to achieve our targets in one of the world’s fastest growing renewable energy markets.”

The joint venture will span the emerging markets of Southeast Asia, with immediate emphasis on the Philippines and Vietnam. Strong growth over the past three years and a significant rise in government and public support for an acceleration in the adoption of renewable energy is providing investors with confidence in growth projections that see the region adding 30,000 MW of wind and solar capacity by 2025. Despite COVID-related disruptions, the region’s long-term demand for energy has not diminished, and the rebound of that growth is expected to be met with a significant proportion of renewable energy generation.

About JCM Power

JCM Power is an independent power producer (IPP) dedicated to accelerating social, economic, and environmental sustainability in growth markets through the development, construction and operation of renewable energy infrastructure. Our driving vision is to advance the clean energy age.

Ho Chi Minh City, 19 August 2021 – Modern Energy Management (MEM), a specialist in developing, building and operating investment grade renewable energy projects in emerging markets, announced it has been appointed by Hero Future Energies (HFE) to provide Owner’s Engineer services for its 100MW wind farm project in Kon Tum province, Vietnam.

“This is a continuation of the support Modern Energy Management provided HFE on this Vietnam project,” said Oman Singh with Hero Future Energies. “We found their technical advisory and engineering services to be extremely helpful. Because of our positive history with them, we knew that Modern Energy was the right partner to provide the Owner’s Engineer services for this wind project.”

Modern Energy Management’s scope of work includes wind engineering, procurement advisory, and contracting support.

“This is a mid-stage development project,” stated Marc Wright, Head of Engineering and Development at Modern Energy Management, “and this is the stage of development where Modern Energy adds the most value in project optimization and risk management for both construction and operations. In our advisory role, this is where MEM is best able to optimize and derisk wind projects for our clients.”

Vietnam’s current Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) is scheduled to expire on 01 November 2021. Despite the uncertainty that comes with questions around what new schemes may be enacted after the FIT expiration, investors like HFE are committed to Vietnam renewable energy growth.

“Given the development schedule of this,” stated Aaron Daniels, Managing Director of Modern Energy Management, “it will not be ready in time for the current FIT, which is scheduled to sunset in November 2021. We are watching government communications regarding possible news related to a new FITin Vietnam. The project will be looking towards the next program when it’s announced.”

“The expiration of the FIT puts pressure on developers to optimize their projects,” continued Mr. Daniels. “MEM is a good fit for HFE on this scope due to our experience in optimizing project value drivers, particularly in Vietnam where we have a long and successful history.”

With power demands expected to double between 2020 and 2030, Vietnam recently raised its 2030 wind renewable energy target from 6GW to 11GW. By the end of 2020, wind power installed capacity was only 670MW.

MEM currently supports investors in over 1.5GW of onshore and intertidal wind projects in Vietnam.
